Let’s talk about millennial monopoly.
This game just recently came out and for those of you who may not have seen it, it is absolutely hilarious, in my humble opinion.
It seriously cracks me up. The slogan right on the front of the box actually says “Forget real estate, you can’t afford it anyway.” The point is that they’ve actually taken a stereotype about millennials and used that to market their product.
It’s not a new game. It’s still the same lot of monopoly. It still has the same rules. They just repackaged it and put a spin on it, a spin that’s causing controversy and cause people to talk about it.
So all of these people that are getting upset and doing all these social media posts whining about “I can’t believe they did this,” and “it’s so unfair,” make me think:
A. It totally cracks me up but B. they’re playing right into the hands of the entire marketing strategy.
It’s hilarious to me anyway, may not be to you, but what I do want you to think about is what is that is doing for Hasbro’s business. They’re actually getting social media marketing for free just by taking a stance, by taking a stance of something that’s a little off the norm and a little controversial.
So, how can we apply that exact same concept to our own businesses?
What are you doing right now to take a stand and how can you get people talking about your business without you paying them or asking them to? How can you be a little bit controversial?
What can you do or say to get the same millennial marketing spin as what’s happening out there right now? Something to think about! Now go take a stand!
