As entrepreneurs, we are out there forging new paths. We’re trying to get to a vision of where we want to go but we don’t know what that path looks like along the way and we can’t get there without a roadmap. Often, which I’ve talked about in other things, we can get off on squirrel trails that are not part of the map. If we’re not following the map, we don’t get where we’re going and it’s absolutely impossible for the people that we hire and our team to follow us along the same journey.
We, as entrepreneurs, speak a kind of a different language when it gets into the tech side of things. The biggest one that I’ve seen is with web developers. They all talk a different language then the normal world or normal people out there. Normal people don’t quite understand what we’re saying, but I know when it is time to hire somebody on the technical stuff, for example, web programming, it’s a totally different language and you may need a translator. It’s much easier to translate when you have a map. The map shows them what is needed instead of trying to tell them what is needed.
Show them a visual. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you don’t have that road map for your business, it’s impossible to get people to join you along the way. At Formula Done, I have been doing this for years with our customers. It’s imperative every time we start off with any new project, we sit down with the client and actually do a complete mapping session.
We map out the path and we ask- “what’s the system?”, “What’s the process that people are following?”, “What does the customer’s journey look like? “, “Do we have an answer for a yes or no decision?”, “When you see those new shiny objects, is that part of your path or is that as something that needs to get the tabled for later?”. Once you have that journey mapped, it’s so much easier to stick to it.
This becomes your path until you’ve reached the end. Then you can go back and start working on phase two. Which includes questions like- “where do I need to come out from here?”, “What else can I do to make this better?”. Maybe there’s a whole other journey, but that’s what happens. You have to have that map to know what your main foundation is so that you can always come back to it.
This is something that I’ve been doing for years because I’m really, really good at being artsy, crafty, and visualizing and seeing the actual thing turn from something in your brain to something on paper people can see and understand. I also understand entrepreneurs and the language that we speak, so it’s easy for me to see all of those different paths and understand what you’re trying to get to. I can see your path and help to translate that into a map.
We’re actually unveiling this as an official offer. It’s called the Formula Done Cartology System. We’re taking your online shopping cart. We’re taking the thing that you’re trying to sell for your business and we’re turning that into a cartography system just like map makers and building a map for your business.
You wouldn’t believe how much easier it is to stop worrying about the details when you have this map. You can stop getting stuck in the tech sticky things that keep you from making decisions and moving forward. All of a sudden you have a very clear visual roadmap of your exact vision and where it needs to go. You can literally use that to help hire your next team member, your next subcontractor or whoever it is that’s going to help you do those different pieces. They won’t have to keep asking you a million questions about “How does this connect here?” or “What software does that connect to here?” because they know they have the map.
They become self-sufficient, everything moves faster and you are not worried anymore about all of the little details and how pieces connect and how to get to the end because you have a visual map. It has saved the sanity of so many entrepreneurs and the clients that we work with and it’s so imperative.
