All right, who here is a Grammar Nazi? I totally am, admittedly, but here’s the thing it can work to your benefit whether you follow the grammar rules and spelling rules or you don’t. You just have to know what your stand is and use it to your advantage. If you are the person that is not great with spelling and is not great with grammar and you put it out there right from the beginning and tell people, “expect this, you’re going to see that I’m going to be misusing words and I’m going to be misspelling words because that’s just who I am”. Totally fine. People are expecting it. If you are not that person, think about who your audience is. If your audience is somebody who is more educated or has a higher education level then you don’t want to do provide this information. That’s going to automatically draw those people away.
It seems like common sense, right? But it happens, I see it on social posts all the time! Don’t be that person. Hire an editor or have somebody who’s really good with grammar and spelling review your stuff before you post or publish it.
Now on the flip side, if you’re somebody who is a Grammar Nazi and you’re looking for a little bit of engagement, you can actually do some things that are going to call attention out. These things are a little bit controversial but it can work! You can include a mistake and make fun of it or tell the reader that you put a misspelled word in the copy and ask them to find it and call it out. These types of ideas are going to cause more engagement with your readers. It might even get people riled up. You will find that your readers are reading your content more carefully. So, pay attention if you’re a Grammar Nazi to how you can use it to your benefit, but always double check your work.
