The chase of the gold star. This is something that used to drive me absolutely crazy when I worked in corporate America. The people who are like, “Hey, I did my job, aren’t I awesome?”
I used to think, “hey, great, do you want a gold star for that?” Right? I don’t care that you did your job, do it and do it right, that’s what you’re here for.
But you know what? Here’s the thing, the gold star is a chase. It’s kind of gamification, it’s a verification that they’ve done something correctly and something to reach for.
People strive for recognition, and that’s something that you can easily take on in your business. What is it that you can do to provide recognition to your clients, your prospects, to your customers?
What is the thing that you can do that’s going to give them that gold star win and paying attention to how you’re going to call out that recognition.
Maybe it’s a leaderboard. Maybe it’s a special personal text. Certificate. Badge.
What are you doing that’s giving people that self win that’s making them think, hey, I’m doing this right? Even if they aren’t a customer of yours yet, it’s all part of gamification. And it’s super, super important to pay attention to.
How are you handing out that gold star? Think about it the next time that you’re putting together a message or the next time you’re interfacing with one of your customers.
